Meet The Team
BRAD SMITH – DIRECTOR
Brad started his journey in composite fabrication over 25 years ago working on industrial projects allowing him to become a fully qualified composite technician. These beginnings taught Brad the importance of high-quality fabrication techniques where the strength and integrity of fibreglass fabrication are truly put to the test.
However, Brad is an artisan at heart and his talents quickly saw him become a skilled pattern maker and composites fabrication specialist. From one-off bespoke projects to constructing mass production projects, Brad has created a reputation for always completing a project to perfection for his customers.
These highly competent composite fabrication skills combined with Lean manufacturing practices and 5S training means that Brad not only has the expertise to carry out high-quality work but also possesses the management tools to carry it out in the most efficient, cost-effective and lean manner.
In early 2022 Brad created Tas Composites, in an effort to continue to deliver significant value to customers with composite needs within both Tasmania and Australia. Since its inception, Brad has managed and steered Tas Composites to successfully complete numerous high-quality projects for customers in various industries.
Outside of work, Brad regularly camps in Tassie’s remotest locations in the pursuit of surfing or diving. He’s also a keen music lover and enjoys a pub with a good live band.
Brad is possibly one of the most talented ‘all-rounder’ composite technicians in the country and Tas Composites provides him with the conduit for his skills and passion to be unrestricted to produce amazing products.
DAVID MERCER – DIRECTOR
David started work in the composites industry over 40 years ago and has seen it all; from the humblest beginnings making surf skis to managing high-volume composite production. All whilst being driven by his passion for manufacturing composite parts and living for the challenge of seeing new products evolve.
David holds a trade certificate in plastics fabrication and has completed formal qualifications in management. This provides him with the working knowledge of all that is required to operate a successful composites company from leading staff to working in the factory.
Aside from his love of building composite parts, David is also a zealot for Lean manufacturing practices and is always driven to make a project as streamlined as possible all the while ensuring the workshop shines.
David joined forces with Brad in Tas Composites to bolster the industry experience and the company's ability to deliver larger projects. This all whilst maintaining the high quality and customer-focused nature of Tas Composites’ services.
Outside of work, David is renowned for cooking impressive dinners for his mates or having a quiet fish in Tassie’s beautiful waterways.
David brings a wealth of talent and practical skills to the Tas Composites team and looks forward to making your next project a success.
